Today in Uganda

We began a new classroom in Uganda this morning in the city of Entebbe.  The rainy season has just begun, and we have seen some powerful rainfalls in the last few days.  However, when we got up this morning, we were awakened to a bright blue sky, warm sunshine, and a slight breeze which has kept things cool all day.

Looking into the faces of about 30 Ugandan pastors was a joy throughout this first morning.  In fact, it was so joyful I ran over about an hour in the first session before lunchtime!  Pastor Larry, our co-teacher for the week taught this afternoon.  The men responded well, and I believe they really have enjoyed the opportunity to have two instructors.  We are expecting about two to three more pastors to yet arrive before Tuesday morning.

Uganda is called the pearl of Africa and for good reason.  It has the second largest fresh water lake in the world, second only to Lake Superior in the Great Lakes region.  It is spectacular and offers the residents here fresh water Talapia and huge fresh water perch which reach the size of two to three feet in length.  How about barbequeing one of those this Friday night?  Yesterday I got to see the botanical garden which is essentially a large jungle area just like you see in the movies.  In fact, several Tarzan episodes were shot right here in this jungle because of the extensive vine system.  And yes, I did my best Tarzan impersonation.  Don't worry, Johnny Weissmuller was the king of the call!

Let me ask you to do two things today about this particular classroom here in Entebbe.  First let me encourage you to pray for these pastors.  They are just like all the rest of the nationals we encounter.  They do not have access to proper educational opportunity.  They know they need training and want it!  These kinds of native believers exist all over the world.  They are the unknown Christians that we never hear about except when there is a national tragedy, weather phenomenon, or severe persecution.    Pray for them by name.  On our website gbtf.net you can see the names and faces of pastors all over the world along with a short bio on each.  These Ugandan pastors will be on our website soon! This can help you to pray with a face in mind.  Choose a country like Rwanda, Togo, Liberia, or Uganda and pick one or two and pray for them each day by name.

Let me encourage you to do one more thing.  Once you have prayed for a pastor or two you have chosen, consider giving up a special coffee or tea once a week and giving that amount through gbtf.net each month to cover the cost of two classrooms a year for one pastor.  Doesn't sound like much, but you would be amazed at what this will accomplish in multiplying the gospel globally.  Want to do something great for missions?  I don't know of a better way to get involved in God's great eternal work all over this world!

Blessings from Uganda,

Bruce
